If you are not using insurance to pay for services, you have the right to receive an estimated cost of services, called a "Good Faith Estimate" for the expected medical charges, including medical nutrition therapy services. This Good Faith Estimate is a requirement of the No Surprises Act. This law helps protect clients from unexpected medical bills and promotes transparency in pricing for healthcare services.

Good Faith Estimate & The No Surprises Act

You will receive a Good Faith Estimate if:
  • You do not have insurance or
  • You choose not to use your insurance for nutrition counseling services.

The estimate will outline the expected costs for your appointments based on the information available at the time. It will include:
  • The type of service (e.g., initial nutrition assessment, follow-up session)
  • The expected number of sessions if known
  • The total estimated charges

Your Rights
  • You have the right to request a Good Faith Estimate in writing before scheduling a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charges.
